24-Hour Certificate Program

This program fulfills the 24-hour training requirement outlined in California Family Code Section 3200.5 and Standard 5.20 for professional supervised visitation providers. Offered by Bridging Families, this formal certificate program provides comprehensive training and credentialing as mandated by state standards. While this certificate demonstrates completion of the required training, it is not equivalent to certification.

The program strictly adheres to the standards established by the California Judicial Council.

Training Requirements

Professional supervised visitation providers must complete 24 hours of training prior to providing services. The training must include:

  • 12 hours of classroom instruction covering topics such as:
    • The role of a professional provider.
    • Child abuse reporting laws.
    • Recordkeeping procedures.
    • Screening, monitoring, and termination of visitation.
    • Developmental needs of children.
    • Legal responsibilities and obligations of providers.
    • Cultural sensitivity and conflict resolution.
    • Confidentiality.
    • Issues related to substance abuse, child abuse, sexual abuse, and domestic violence.
    • Basic knowledge of family and juvenile law.
  • Of the total hours:
    • 3 hours must focus on screening, monitoring, and termination.
    • 3 hours on developmental needs of children.
    • 3 hours on issues related to abuse and domestic violence.
    • 1 hour on family law basics.
